Oak Glen, Yucaipa family and child photographer – McKenna Pendergrass. A fun filled family session for a sweet family of five, at Los Rios Rancho.

I can’t believe it’s been over 3.5years now since I met this sweet mama and her newborn baby girl.  We’d both just had babies within a week of each other.  Lol.  Fast forward to now and I feel like she’s an old friend!  I’ve watched her kids grow, I was at the birth of her littlest, and I got to take photos of his first year.  We go to play group together, and my son looks up to her oldest boy so much!  I just adore this family.

How has your life changed in the last year? Life has definitely changed. It’s chaotic, crazy, and beautiful all at the same time.

What new things is your baby up to?  New skills, likes or dislikes, quirks? Diego is into pointing his finger at and shhhing his siblings, the dogs, or whoever is being loud or making too much noise (it’s hilarious  to witness it). He is obsessed with the cat’s food, which is totally different from my first two. And he loves to hug and kiss his bother and sister, it just doesn’t get any better than that:)

What is your favorite thing about being a parent?  The best part of being a parent is the true understanding of what unconditional love and being truly present in the now are. And just feeling loved by this little person to whom you mean the world. That feeling is second to none.

What advice do you have for parents of a 1 year old? Take it all in. Enjoy every moment. I know everyone says it, but time does fly.

What is your favorite family tradition? We started camping a few summers back. All the kids love it. It’s amazing to see kids enjoying nature.

What is your favorite thing to do as a family?  The kids love to hide when they hear daddy opening the garage door when he’s getting home from work. As soon as Diego hears Omar and Lili shout “Daddy is coming” he drops what he’s doing and goes and hides with them under the table. But he can’t stay there for long, and he comes out to greet daddy as soon as he hears his voice.

If you could describe your family in 3 words, what would they be? Loving, happy, and crazy:)

Magical Woodland Portraits

Magical Woodland Portraits – McKenna Pendergrass. A whimsical and enchanting family session for a baby girl’s first birthday. Pasadena, Southern California.

I love all of my sessions, I truly do, but every once in a while I have a session that just leaves me in awe and makes me so thankful that God gave me the talent for photography.  This session was just GORGEOUS from start to finish!!  Miss Leah is such a sweetheart, and I’m so sad that she’s graduated her baby plan!

How has your life changed in the last year? Drastically- it is like night and day! Right before getting pregnant, we were living in Chicago and living the typical “before kids” life full of dinner, wine, and sleeping in. Now everything we do revolves around Leah and every choice is about how to make sure our daughter is happy and healthy. We wouldn’t change it for the world though- she is worth every sleepless night!

What new things is your baby up to?  New skills, likes or dislikes, quirks? She has so much personality! She is not a baby anymore, but an actual little human. She is constantly surprising me with how much she actually understands and can do. All she wants to do is walk, eat, dance, read, and point to whatever she wants you to get for her. She makes it known when she doesn’t like something, but will also laugh and give you the cutest smile ever when she is happy. She loves dogs, music, books, balls, and fruit and cheese. She basically hates doing anything she doesn’t want to do and sleeping in general… unless it’s in bed with Mommy and Daddy:)

What is your favorite thing about being a parent? (especially as it applies to your baby now?) I just love having her in my life and watching her develop into a person. There is nothing like seeing your child grow, learn, and experience the world.

What advice do you have for parents of a 1 year old? If you are looking for any advice on sleep, I am not the person to ask:)I would just say try to live in the moment with your child as much as possible – take time to just be with them and forget about the laundry and dirty dishes. I am constantly trying to remind myself during the hard times that all that matters is that my daughter is healthy- everything else is just a phase.

These three are back again!  I’ve already met their newest addition (and he was oh so sweet!) and I absolutely can’t wait to share his newborn photos with you!  But for now, here are the maternity photos.  Stay tuned for more!

Tell us your story:  We’re the Bergs! We are currently expecting our second son, our first son Logan is about to turn two and is so excited to be a big brother!

How did you find out that you were pregnant?  What was your reaction?  We were trying so we had been taking tests which had all been negative so far, I was thinking that it just hadn’t worked out yet but decided to take one more test just to be sure, and it was positive! I was a little surprised after having had negative tests just a few days before, but we were so excited!

How has your pregnancy treated you so far?  This pregnancy has been pretty easy! Staying busy and active with a toddler has made it go by a little faster and surprisingly quite a bit easier!

What are you looking forward to most about being a parent?  I am looking forward to enjoying our new baby and (hopefully) feeling a bit more like I know what I’m doing since it won’t all be new to us this time around!

Peter Pan themed nursery and lifestyle newborn photos

Peter Pan themed nursery and lifestyle newborn photos – McKenna Pendergrass Photography. Victorville lifestyle newborn and family photographer.

I’ve known this family for a long time, and they’re very dear to my heart.  I was so excited to hear that they were expecting!  These two are so creative and put so much work into Arthur’s Peter Pan themed nursery, I knew it needed photos to do it justice!  And of course no family photo session would be complete without including the furry babies!  It was such an amazing honor to photograph Arthur’s newborn photos.

Tell us about your design process. Did you start with one central item or idea that served as your inspiration?– I have always loved Peter Pan and my husband and I have always had fun giving acorns and thimbles to each other on special occasions. He proposed to me with my engagement ring in an acorn shaped box and I told him we were going to have a baby with a note rolled up in a thimble. It only seemed appropriate to decorate our sons with the same theme!

What was the most important thing you wanted to achieve when creating this space? – more than anything I wanted this room to have a peaceful feel when walk in to it and I truly thing I achieved it. I often find myself sitting in the rocking chair when I’m stressed out and need to calm down. We actually added another chair in the corner so my husband can sit and read to us while I feed the baby! It’s the most comfortable room in the house.

Now that the accent walls have dried and bedding is neatly tucked, what is your favorite thing about the room?– by far, my favorite part of the room is the branch with the lanterns over the rocking chair. I knew when I found the branch that I wanted to use it in Arthur’s room and it took me a few months to decide how I wanted to feature it. After watching hook one night I knew all it needed was some lanterns and it would be the coolest night light ever.

.

What’s the first thing people notice when stepping foot into this room?– I think the branch is the first thing that catches the eye. It’s really the statement piece of the room.

If you had to remove one key item from the room, what would you part with? – probably the book shelf. We would likely move it into the living room so we could use the books to stimulate and expand vocabulary as opposed to a lullaby. In its place we could put a more comfortable chair for daddy to sit in.

If you could add another item to the room, what would be your first choice? – a picture of our family so we could show him what a blessing it is that we have each other!
